Overview
The visually arresting Infiniti Q60 casts a spell on onlookers even though it fails to truly excite driving enthusiasts. The coupe version of the four-door Infiniti Q50 sedan is undeniably attractive, but even the high-performance Q60 Red Sport 400 (reviewed separately) pales in comparison with sharper rivals. Still, the Infiniti coupe represents an excellent value versus competitors such as the Audi A5 and the BMW 4-series.
Engines, Ride, and Handling
The Q60 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. That muscle is routed through a seven-speed automatic transmission and either standard rear- or optional all-wheel drive. The previously standard 208-hp turbocharged four-cylinder has been dropped. We've only tested the 400-hp Q60 Red Sport 400, but the main differences between it and the regular Q60 are standard adaptive dampers and an optional steering system that Infiniti calls Direct Adaptive Steering. The Red Sport 400 also adds larger wheels with stickier tires and stronger brakes. Still, we've driven one without the upgraded steering setup and appreciated its accuracy but wished the effort was higher and the helm was more direct.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Q60 offers attractive materials and a spacious front seat. However, the design is dated and the dual-screen infotainment system is convoluted. While the top and bottom screens respond to touch inputs, the upper screen can be manipulated via a rotary controller on the center console. Navigation and a 4G LTE mobile Wi-Fi hotspot are optional, but neither Apple CarPlay or Android Auto capability is offered. Since the entry-level Pure model doesn't have many options, the Luxe trim level adds standard features such as a Bose audio system, automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning, and a sunroof. Likewise, it can be equipped with even more driver-assistance technology through the ProAssist package that includes a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and rear automated emergency braking.
