Pre-op

Instructions

Pre-op instructions are important for any surgery. We always recommend talking with someone about plastic or cosmetic procedures well in advance so you understand what’s involved from start to finish. At our office, we work closely with each person who is considering having something like this done by giving them all the information needed.’

These steps will help you be prepared before going into Bright Plastic Surgery to have your procedure done, and it can make a huge difference in the outcome of everything.

Before scheduling your surgery with Bright Plastic Surgery, one of the first things that we do is make sure to sign a contract and put you in contact with a patient consultant so they can guide you through this journey. After signing up, one of our coordinators will help you select what day would be best for getting ready for your procedure and how long before it’s necessary to start preparing by having complete blood tests done as well as weight measurements which determine whether or not you’ll qualify.

Any patient that follows this guide can also avoid cancellation of the surgery and the penalty fee associated with it.

Instructions

Every patient is different, so every single post-op instruction will need to be tailored to their needs. However, following up on some basic guidelines can help to keep you healthy and happy down the line.

Please, take into account that EACH DOCTOR has their own post-operation instructions for each surgery procedure.

  • Please, arrange for someone to be with you at home the first 24 HOURS after your procedure as you will be sleepy and can become dizzy for several hours.
  • FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS given by your doctor and none else, especially no family or friends with no medical expertise.
  • DON´T DRINK ALCOHOL for at least three weeks after surgery, to help the healing process to go smoothly.
  • DON´T SMOKE for a minimum of EIGHT weeks after your procedure.
  • EAT protein and keep hydrated.
  • AVOID stress, moving hard. No normal exercise is allowed and not heavy lifting over 5 pounds
  • LISTEN to your body. If you experience pain or fatigue take the measurements to keep the healing process in the most comfortable way for you and always be patient with yourself during those post-op days.

Breast augmentation post-op

(Some general recommendations. You must follow your doctor’s specific instructions for your procedure)

  • Do not lift more than 5 pounds for 6 weeks.
  • Only wear a sports bra that closes in the front, or use the one we provide at the clinic for 6 weeks.
  • Do not smoke or be in contact with smokers for 8 weeks after surgery.
  • Avoid getting the tape wet, if they get wet, dry very well with a cold air dryer.

  • Don’t sit for 6 weeks, only using your BBL pillow.
  • You can sit fully after 8 weeks but should avoid long periods of sitting.
  • It is necessary for the patient to have 10 to 15 massages after the surgery. The more massages are done, the better results will be.
  • Use a smaller faja (girdle) if necessary for a tight fit.
  • After seeing the nurse 24 hours after surgery, and knowing that everything is fine, you can begin to massage and take a shower.
  • Use foam and board for sitting.

  • Avoid getting the tape wet, if they get wet, dry very well with a cold air dryer.
  • Wash the navel with soap and water and add a little triple antibiotic or Neosporin.
  • After the wound is completely closed, you can apply a healing cream if directed by your doctor.
  • It is recommended to walk for 10 to 15 minutes every 2 hours to improve your drainage.
  • After the tape is removed in two weeks, you can start giving your massages, but do not force them.

Why to quit

Smoking and alcohol

Why does plastic surgery require you to quit smoking and drinking alcohol?

Tobacco products can cause wound healing to be slower and more difficult. It is important that you stop smoking, chewing tobacco, or using any other form of nicotine for at least three weeks before your surgery as well as after the procedure has been completed. If you are unable to stay clean from these substances during this time period, it may affect how quickly tissue heals and if there will even be enough healthy tissue leftover on which a scar could develop in future years without something serious happening first like necrosis (dead cells).

The prohibition also includes any vaping or hookah use. This is especially important if you want to obtain an optimal surgical result.

Doctors recommend at least eight weeks post-op without nicotine. You should avoid secondhand smoke and cigarette replacements during the perioperative period, which includes 30 days before and after surgery to get a speedy recovery.

There is a strict no smoking, drinking, or drug policy in our clinic. If you have any alcohol, nicotine, or drugs on the day of your surgery it will be immediately canceled and there will be an additional penalty fee applied to the bill that can’t go ignored.

In an instance where a patient needs to reschedule after any incident that results in the cancellation of surgery, they must pay their balance owed in full and be subject to new availability. In order for patients not to have this happen again, we encourage them to follow instructions by avoiding nicotine or alcohol as directed.

    FAQs

How long does it take to recover from plastic surgery? ›

    Plastic Surgery Healing Time

There's no one definite answer to how long it takes for a plastic surgery procedure to heal. Depending on the surgical solution you have performed, you may need as little as a couple days or should plan for two to three weeks of down time.

How do I prepare my body for plastic surgery? ›

Eat a healthy diet to get your body in optimum shape for surgery. Stop taking any supplements or naturopathic or homeopathic medications two weeks before surgery. On the night before and the morning of your surgery, take a shower and wash thoroughly with regular soap.

    Is plastic surgery painful? ›

Since plastic surgeries involve making incisions and stitches, however major or minor, it is natural for the operated site to hurt. However, plastic surgeons and medical technology ensure that you feel minimal to no pain during the surgery or your recovery period.

What is the most painful plastic surgery to recover from? ›

Abdominal surgeries, including elective or cosmetic ones, are often considered some of the most painful and risky. A tummy tuck is not an exception. When compared to other surgeries such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty, the recovery is longer and more painful.

What is the easiest plastic surgery to recover from? ›

    Breast Augmentation, Lift, or Reduction

A breast augmentation can help women improve their professional and personal relationships as well as, of course, their confidence. While this procedure is performed in an operating room, it has a surprisingly short recovery period and is considered to be one of the quickest.

How do I prepare my body for surgery? ›

Here are some things you can do to ensure you're ready:

Eat healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains, and drink enough fluids to stay well-hydrated. Get plenty of rest. Arrange support from family or friends during and after surgery, including transportation to and from the hospital.

What to wear to plastic surgery? ›

    Loose and comfortable

You don't want anything too tight or restricting. We suggest a zip or button top that is easy to get on and off without pulling it over your head. You'll want to be careful with that, especially with a face procedure or breast augmentation. Next, you should wear loose-fitting sweatpants.

Will a plastic surgeon tell you what you need? ›

The right surgeon will want to hear about your desired results in great detail, offer suggestions to optimize results, and help you choose the best procedure(s) to meet your goals.

What is the riskiest plastic surgery procedure? ›

However, BBL procedures are often considered “the most dangerous plastic surgeries.” The gluteal area is full of major blood vessels. If a surgeon goes too deep with the insertion, fat can enter the bloodstream and block the heart (fat embolism) or the lungs (pulmonary embolism), potentially resulting in death.

What is the least painful plastic surgery? ›

Most patients report that rhinoplasty is only a 2 to 3 on a 10-point pain scale. Comparatively speaking, it's among the least painful cosmetic surgeries. Much of what should be expected will be due to congestion, which the patient can manage with prescription medications.

What plastic surgery has the shortest recovery time? ›

    Breast Augmentation, Lift, or Reduction

While this procedure is performed in an operating room, it has a surprisingly short recovery period and is considered to be one of the quickest.

How long does pain last after plastic surgery? ›

You will feel some pain for 2 to 4 days after surgery. You may have some trouble opening your mouth for several days. The skin around the incisions probably will be numb. You may have some itching or shooting pain as the feeling returns.

How long does it take the body to fully recover from surgery? ›

Recovery can range from a few days to several months or even up to a year for more complex procedures. For example, minor surgeries like a vasectomy may have a recovery time of just a few days, while major surgeries such as a Total Knee Replacement (TKR) can take several months to a full year for complete recovery.
