The SAT is now a computer adaptive test. The new digital SAT covers essentially the same content. However, it has an entirely new format and is 46 minutes shorter than the old paper test.

Check out our side-by-side comparison of the digital and paper SAT to learn more about how the test has changed.

When can I take the new digital SAT?

For U.S. students, the first digital SAT test date is March 9, 2024. International students have been taking the digital SAT since March of 2023.

The SAT is offered on 7 Saturdays every year: in March, May, June, August, October, November, and December. Some schools and districts also offer the test to their students during the school day.

Please visit the College Board’s website to register for the SAT.

Can I still take the paper test?

No. It’s no longer offered. The final paper test date was December 2, 2023.

There is, however, a linear (non-adaptive) paper version of the new test for students with relevant accommodations. Please refer toCollege Board’s information on accommodations for the digital SATfor more information.
